Stewart C. Hanscom

1928-2015

Stewart C. Hanscom
It is with great sadness the family of Stewart Clifford Hanscom announce his peaceful passing on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Hotel Dieu St. Joseph Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Lerwick, NB, on March 11, 1928, he was the son of the late Lewis and Hattie (Plant) Hanscom.

Over his lifetime, Stewart was employed in several industries. He worked as a meat cutter for several grocery stores; as maintenance person for Fraser Company and the Province of New Brunswick; as an insurance advisor for Shaw Insurance. He also operated his own business, Hanscom's Furniture and Appliances for a number of years. He was loved by his family for his carpentry ability to fix and build most "anything". He could always be counted on to help.

Stewart was an avid fisherman and in his earlier days, a hunter. He enjoyed many fishing excursions with his circle of friends and could be counted on to relay their tales to his family.

Stewart is survived by his daughters, Debbie Miller (Jack), Danita Fanjoy (Don Beers); his son David Hanscom (Kim); his grandchildren Jessica, Nathan, and Jonathan; one sister Bernice LaFrance; one brother Clem Hanscom (Lorna). He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Eileen Hanscom (Baker) in 2007, a grandson Christopher Miller in 2010, 6 brothers and 3 sisters.

Funeral service was held on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at 11 am from the Family Worship Center. Rev. D. R. McKillop officiated, assisted by Rev. D.C. McKillop and Rev. Garland Hanscom. Interment followed in Linton Corner Cemetery.

Remembrances were shared by Ronnie Hanscom and Jessica Hanscom. Music for the service was by the FWC Trio, Rev. and Mrs. David Ferrell, and Mr. Paul Reid.

Flower carriers were Sherry Shaw-Green, Bonnie Corbin, Susan Goodine, and Jessica Hanscom.

Honorary pallbearers were Lloyd Kierstead, John Giberson, Carl Parsons, Earlan Baker, Verdell Sullivan, and Dalton Millard.

Pallbearers were Nathan Fanjoy, Jonathan Fanjoy, Doug Thibodeau, Mark Reid, Darren Burgoyne, and Tommy Baker.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Barry Wecker, the Oncology Department at Hotel Dieu St. Joseph Hospital, to caregivers Donna Burns and Erin Caron, friends and neighbours, health care professionals from the Department of Social Services and Extra-Mural, who through their care and kindness enable him to remain in his own home until a week before he passed.

Donations can be made to The Chris Miller Memorial Fund, a registered charity established in memory of Stewart's grandson (www.chrismillermemorial.ca), the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements were entrusted to Brunswick Funeral Home, Perth-Andover and Plaster Rock.
