Newman DeMerchant
Newman DeMerchant of Aroostook passed away peacefully at his home on January 13, 2016.

Newman was born in Lerwick, NB on January 25, 1936. He was the son of the late Murchie and Lavina (Lloyd) DeMerchant. Newman leaves behind his wife of 55 years Avis DeMerchant (Pelkey); and his sons Joseph DeMerchant (Marilyn) of Aroostook and Rev. Melvin DeMerchant (Colleen) of Ajax, ON; his grandchildren Sheena DeMerchant (Dayna), Randy DeMerchant (Arica), Graham DeMerchant, and Emily DeMerchant; a great grandson Nixon DeMerchant-Craig; his sister Dorothy Smith of Guelph, ON. He was predeceased by his parents; a son Randy DeMerchant; a granddaughter Brooke DeMerchant; sisters Myrtle Parker and Vera Baker; brothers Wylie, Angus, and Perley DeMerchant.

Newman worked as a snowplow operator for many years prior to his retirement. He was also a member of Calvary Tabernacle, Perth-Andover.

Funeral service was held on Sunday, January 17, 2016 at 3 pm from Calvary Tabernacle. Rev. David Ferrell, Rev. Jonathan McNair, and Rev. Melvin DeMerchant officiated. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery at a later date.

Music for the service was by Rev. and Roma Ferrell, and David King. Newman's grandchildren, Randall and Emily DeMerchant, also took part in the service. The eulogy was given by Joe and Rev. Melvin DeMerchant.

Pallbearers were Jim Pelkey, Winston Everett, Dayna Craig, Joe Tompkins, Tony Pelkey, and Victor Theberge.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Brunswick Funeral Home, Perth-Andover.
