Bernadette Cecila Eccleston-Neilson (nee Christensen) of Linton Corner, NB, passed away peacefully on July 1st, 2016 at the Upper River Valley Hospital.

Bernadette was born in New Denmark, NB on May 5, 1933. She was the daughter of the late Neils and Clara (Fitzpatrick) Christensen. Bernadette leaves behind her children Marie Harding of Fredericton, NB, Peter Eccleston (Marcelle) of New Denmark, NB, Brenda Giberson of Woodstock, NB, Grace Harris (Chris) of Woodstock, NB, Betty Parsons (David) of Three Brooks, NB; her son-in-law, Gerald McCarthy; 18 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Bernadette was predeceased by her husband George Neilson; her daughters Julia Eccleston and Lois McCarthy; her sisters Mary Wagner, Theresa Madore, Angela Madore, and Ann McCarthy; brothers Bernard, Peter, James, Francis, Joseph, Jerome, and John Christensen. Bernadette was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Bernadette went to work as a nurse's aid on the maternity floor at the L.P. Fisher Memorial Hospital in Woodstock in July 1948. She went into training to become am LPN January 1st, 1950 and graduated January 15th, 1952. She worked at the Sanatorium in Shelburn, NS and then at the Provincial Hospital in Saint John, NB. She started working at the Tobique Valley Hospital on July 6th, 1953 and stayed there until her retirement in 1997. Bernadette was also a region for the Daughters of Isabella in Plaster Rock and served a term as President of the Woman's Club on the Anderson Road.

Funeral service was held on Monday, July 4, 2016 at 1 pm from St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Father Gilbert Doddatto celebrated, assisted by Harold Short-Evans. Interment will be in the Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Blue Bell at a later date.

Music for the service was by Valerie Phinney, Debbie Keenan, Jenny Roy, and Garold Hanscom. Readings were by Bernadette's granddaughters, Jessica Parsons and Nicole Eccleston. A eulogy was written by Colleen Hamilton and read by granddaughter Kara Parsons. Others remembrances were shared by granddaughters Brittney Harris and Kendra Connell.

Pallbearers were Brandon Parsons, Nick Harris, Alex Eccleston, Leslie Eccleston, Chad McCarthy, Brock McCarthy, and Evan Giberson.

Memorials may be made by Mass Cards or donations to the Southern Victoria Cancer Assistance Fund or the Donald Fraser Breakfast Program.

Arrangements were entrusted to Brunswick Funeral Home, Perth-Andover and Plaster Rock.
