Margaret Elizabeth McLaughlin of Perth-Andover, NB, passed away peacefully at Hotel Dieu of St. Joseph Hospital on October 19, 2019.

Margaret was born on March 18, 1925. she was the daughter of the late Rupert and Mary (Ryan) Chapman. Margaret leaves behind her daughter, Carolyn McLaughlin of Saint John, NB; her son David McLaughlin (Joy) of Quispamsis, NB; her grandchildren, Erik McLaughlin (Erin) and Petrea VandenBroek (Jack); her sister-in-law, Irene Chapman of Halifax, NS; along with several nieces and nephews and one great nephew.

Margaret was predeceased by her parents; her husband, George McLaughlin; her brother, Arthur Chapman; her sister-in-law, Trude Metelnick; and her brother-in-law, John Metelnick.

Margaret was born in Petitcodiac, moved to New York in 1928 and returned to Nova Scotia three years later after the death of her father. She lived with her cousins in Truro while her mother returned to work, teaching in various small communities.
In time, Margaret joined her mother and brother Arthur in Sackville, NB.

Her fondest memories as a child were in times spent at the beach at Spencer’s Point, NS and summers at the Gifford farm in Portage Vale with her dear friend, Betty Bustin.

Margaret graduated from Sackville High School in 1942 and received her secretarial diploma from Mount Allison University. She worked at Marshlands Inn in Sackville until 1951.

She moved to Toronto accepting a position with the secretary treasurer of Trans Northern Pipeline. While in Toronto, she met her future husband George McLaughlin from Perth Andover. They married at the Marshlands Inn in 1954 and moved to Perth Andover.

Margaret helped with the family construction business while raising her children.

She cherished her time with her two grandchildren, Erik and Petrea- who will always know her as “Love Grammy”.

Margaret’s family and friends were amazed with her memory and keen sense of humor. She lived her life with wonderful intelligence, grace and devout faith.

Funeral service was held on Friday, October 25, 2019 at 11 am from St. James United Church, Perth-Andover, NB. Rev. Shirley DeMerchant officiated. Interment followed in the Presbyterian Rural Cemetery.

Organist for the service was Mrs. Isabel Morton. The eulogy was given by Margaret's children, David and Carolyn McLaughlin. The urn was carried by David McLaughlin.

The family would like to thank all her caregivers over the past two years. Without them she would not have been able to remain in her home. Recently, Dr. Bell and the nursing staff at Hotel Dieu Hospital, Perth-Andover were also very supportive.

Never ending gratitude to Joyce Barr and Keith and Jackie Kinney for their support over many years.
