Elaine Hatheway

1922-2020

Elaine Hatheway
It is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Sadie Elaine Hatheway on May 18, 2020 at the Hotel Dieu St. Joseph Hospital.

Mom was born in South Tilley, NB to parents Mann and Lila (Pirie) Rattray. She was the only girl in her family of three brothers. James (late Mary), Charles (late Pauline) and George (Geraldine). Mom was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years, Rev. Perley Hatheway; her daughter, Gail Hatheway; and a son-in-law, Paul Long. She is survived by her son Wayne (Joyce) Hatheway of Halifax, Nova Scotia; two daughters, Sheila Long of Perth-Andover and Violet (Serge) Roussel of Perth-Andover. She also leaves to mourn her passing, 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Geraldine Rattray of Clyde, NY. Numerous nieces and nephews that mom loved and cared for deeply.

Mom spent her adult life as a pastor's wife working alongside Dad. She fulfilled that role with grace and had compassion for everyone she met. She was a devoted Mom and Grammy. Putting us first and praying for us daily. Mom was hard working. Often working a job outside of the home. An excellent homemaker, cook and seamstress, she provided well for her family. Mom was also an avid reader. In later years, she began to paint pictures which she had a talent for and enjoyed doing.

Mom was a long time member of Calvary Tabernacle. She was a supporter of foreign missions, Tupelo Children’s Mansions and the local food bank.

Mom was our family’s common denominator. Our matriarch. Now we must honor her memory and legacy by continuing to be a close, loving family that supports each other as we carry on. We will miss her desperately and love her always.

Our family would like to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Larry Kennedy for his kind, proficient care as Moms primary physician for many years.

Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, a private graveside service will be held in River de Chute Cemetery. A more formal service will be held once the Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted.

For those who wish, memorial donations to the Making a Difference Food Bank or to the River de Chute Cemetery would be appreciated by the family.
