Ellen DeMerchant

1936-2021

Ellen DeMerchant
Ellen Margaret DeMerchant of Red Rapids, NB, fought a long courageous battle with cancer and gently passed away at her home surrounded by family on February 28, 2021.

Ellen was born in Anfield, NB, on June 7, 1936. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Helen (Daye) Corcoran. Ellen is survived by her daughter, Lynn Nunn (Clifford) of Odell, NB; her son, Jeffrey DeMerchant (Lois) of Red Rapids, NB; her grandchildren, Sara, Christopher, and Elliot Nunn, Jeff and Michelle Francis, and Nikki DeMerchant; along with several great grandchildren; her sisters, Betty Goodine of Salisbury, NB, Linda Smith (Ernest) of Perth-Andover, NB, Gale Bennewies (Barry) of Stratford, ON, Edie Corcoran of Perth-Andover, NB; her brothers, Wade Corcoran (Sandra) of McLaughlin, NB, Hank Corcoran (Laurie) of Sisson Brook, NB, Tom Corcoran (Val) of Sisson Brook, NB, Ben Corcoran (Marjorie) of Alberta.

Ellen was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Harold DeMerchant Jr.; her sons, David "Chum" DeMerchant and Jerry DeMerchant (Naida); her infant daughter; her grandson, Corey DeMerchant; her granddaughter, Erica DeMerchant; her sisters, Hilda Gallant and Marilyn Corcoran; her brothers, Mark, Reginald, and Rev. Everett Corcoran.

Ellen's kind and compassionate nature was well known in the community. She didn't care for being in the spotlight but accomplished a lot in her quiet purposeful way. She had a huge capacity to love, accept, forgive, and nurture all who were blessed to be in her life. She and her sisters made a pilgrimage in the spring to place flower arrangements on loved ones' headstones and then again in the fall to pick up those arrangements. Family outings were everything to her, which leads me to her love for grocery shopping. Ellen always kept a lot of food on hand in case any of her family, friends or strangers needed food on their table. She nurtured all with great food and great love. She loved making big pots of soup or chowder to share with loved ones. She was a real homemaker and dearly loved Christmas with her family around her whether that was a December Christmas or a Christmas in June. She was a devoted Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Friend who will be greatly missed.

Respecting Ellen's wishes, a private funeral service was held on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 from Brunswick Funeral Home. Several family members shared stories and memories of Ellen. Interment will be in Larlee Creek Cemetery at a later date.

Pallbearers were Jeff DeMerchant, Troy Gaunce, Jason Ridgeley, Elliott Nunn, Trevor Plant, and Terry Lockhart.

Arrangements were entrusted to Brunswick Funeral Home, Perth-Andover and Plaster Rock, NB
