Murray Watters

1941-2021

Murray Watters
Murray Edward Watters passed away peacefully on April 9, 2021 at the Hotel Dieu St. Joseph Hospital, Perth-Andover, NB.

Born in Saint John, NB to Alice(Finley) Watters and Vernor Watters on February 24, 1941, he enjoyed his childhood years on Manawagonish Road and loved the time spent fishing and boating at his family’s camp at Eagle Lake near Musqush, NB. Following graduation from high school, he began working at the Bank of Montreal. His career with BMO took him to Halifax, NS and Perth-Andover, NB, where he met his wife, Jane (Armstrong) Watters. He became the Town Clerk for the Village if Perth-Andover in the late 1960’s and retired from this position in 1998.

Murray had two children: Beth (Jeff) of Perth-Andover, NB and David (Victoria) of Burlington, ON, and three grandchildren, Jagger Watters-Gray, Kieran and Ashley Watters.

He had a lifelong passion for all things in nature, but especially loved birds. He could recognize a bird merely by observing the shape of its wings in flight or by listening to its song, and he participated in the Christmas Bird Count every year until his declining health no longer allowed him to do so.

He enjoyed walking his woodlots over the years with his wife and dogs, Abby, Hannah and Ekko. He also looked forward to summertime visits with his grandchildren Kieran and Ashley, their hikes through the woods, picking blueberries and teaching them about different plant species, birds, and insects. He had a passion for preserving the environment and understood the protection of forests. Conservation became one of his biggest interests and in 2018 he and Jane made a donation of land to The Nature Trust of New Brunswick, named the “Armstrong Woods Nature Preserve”.

He made 2 or 3 trips per year out to Eagle Lake camp with his son-in-law and grandson, Jagger, where he enjoyed fishing, taking leisurely walks through the woods, and sitting on the camp’s porch at night, listening to the calls of the loons and identifying the different constellations in the sky.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren and by his brother, David (Marilyn) of Mississauga, ON, 3 nieces; Pam, Shelley, and Sue and 4 nephews; Jeff, Kevin, Mike and Robbie. He was predeceased by his parents in 1970 and his younger sister, Jane (David) Chapman in 2005.

Keeping to Murray’s wish there will be no visitation or funeral.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brunswick Funeral Home, Perth-Andover, NB.

Donations to The Nature Trust of New Brunswick (www.naturetrust.nb.ca/en/donate) would be greatly appreciated by his family.
