With family by her side, Mavis Smith of Kincardine, NB passed away peacefully at Victoria Glen Manor in Perth-Andover on April 11, 2023 at the age of 95.

Born in Upper Kintore, NB October 10, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Leslie and Myra (Robinson) Barclay. She is survived by her children: Sharon Hawkins (Brian) of Halifax, NS, Marilyn Forman (Robert) of Ward Settlement, NB, Wayne Smith (Danita) of Okotoks, AB, Heather Russell (Steve) of Beaver Bank, NS and Carolyn Smith of Kincardine, NB; 8 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren and 1 brother George Barclay (Gail) of Vegreville, AB.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband of 73yrs, Earl Smith in November 2021, 2 sisters Dorothy Farquhar (Joseph) and Hazel Watson (David).

Prior to marrying Earl on August 25, 1948, Mavis worked as a cook at the hospital in Black’s Harbour, NB, in lumber camps and as a housekeeper for several families in the Perth-Andover area. She then became a stay at home mom.

Mavis enjoyed family picnics, camping trips, playing cards and most of all she loved spending time with family and friends. She always had a lunch and a cup of tea for all visitors.

Mavis was a lifelong member of the United Church of Canada and the UCW. She was a member of the Scotch Colony Brotherhood and Keenagers, a past member of the Women’s Institute. She taught Sunday School for many years, she was very community minded and always helped at Burns Halls and Camp Woolastook. She will always be remembered for her sense of humour and she was a shinning star on the stage in the skit every Robbie Burns night until she was no longer able.

A funeral service will take place May 28, 2023 at 2pm from Melville United Church in Kincardine, NB. Rev. Shirley DeMerchant officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Donations may be made to the Melville United Church Cemetery, Upper Kintore United Church Cemetery, NB Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Diabetes or a charity of the donor’s choice.

The family would like to thank Dr. Allison Kennedy, Dr. Peter Moore and Dr. Josh O’Hagan for all the care they provided. Thanks you to Extra Mural, Kindred Home Care and a very special thank you to the staff of the Victoria Glen Manor for their excellent care.
