Frances DeMerchant
1946-2023
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of
Frances (Fran) DeMerchant on October 31, 2023, at Hospice House,
Fredericton following a courageous three-year battle with cancer.
Fran was born on July 31, 1946, and was the daughter of the late Margaret and Robert Baird. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Warren, children; Kelly (Russell) Holt, David (Julie), Mark (Chantal); grandchildren Gregor, Mollie, Kaleigh, Melody, Jonathan, Will and Dominique; brothers Roy (Linda), Alfred (Charlene); half-sisters Vicki and Pam; special cousins Dawn and Vicki and sisters-in-law Linda, Anne (Steve) and Fern as well as brothers-in-law Don and Blair.
She was predeceased by her parents, brothers James and Victor; sisters-in-law Marilyn, Liz and Florence (Doll) as well as brothers-in law Dick and Bob.
Fran was a graduate of Perth High School and a Registered Nurse, graduating from the Saint John School of Nursing. Her nursing career began in Saint John, NB and eventually led her to the Obstetrics unit of the Doctor Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton where she forged many special friendships with coworkers. These friendships led to many cottage trips and other adventures. She was a mentor to young nurses and dedicated to her patients, especially the new mothers and babies that she cared for.
Fran was a beloved wife, mother, relative, grandmother and friend. She loved reading books and enjoyed her book club and spending time traveling with her family and friends. She was loved by all and always made time for her family, especially her grandchildren.
Thank you to all family and friends who visited, called, or sent best wishes over the past three years. A special thanks to Joan, Marge, Helen Jean and Dawn for always being there for Fran. The family would also like to thank Rev. Wandlyn Snelgrove for her prayers and visitation during this difficult time.
The family also extends a special thank you to Dr. K. Stymiest for the excellent care and her home visits and to the entire staff at the Hospice House, Fredericton for their kindness and compassion during Fran’s last weeks.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:30 pm on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at the Christ Church (Parish Church), 245 Westmorland Street, Fredericton, NB. A reception will follow the service at the Christ Church (Parish Church). Interment will take place at 1:30 pm on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Larlee Creek Cemetery, Perth Andover, NB.
In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to make memorial donations to Hospice House, Fredericton, The Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of their choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brunswick Funeral Home, Perth-Andover, NB.
