Rebecca Savage

Following a brief illness, Rebecca Savage of Grand Falls, NB, passed away peacefully at the Edmundston Regional Hospital on the morning of January 8, 2024.

Rebecca was born in Gillespie Settlement, NB, on February 26, 1934. She was the daughter of the late Levi and Ada (Everett) Gillespie. Rebecca leaves behind her daughters, Anne Savage-Franey of Grand Falls, NB, Mary Godbout (Gilles) of St-André, NB; her son, David Savage (Paula) of Grand Falls, NB; 17 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren with one more on the way; her daughter-in-law, Carolle Savage-Kavanaugh (Eddie) of Grand Falls Portage, NB; her sisters, Barbara Gillespie of Grand Falls, NB, and Judith Theriault (Clayton) of Grand Falls, NB; along with many nieces and nephews.

Rebecca was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Ivan Savage; her son, Joe Savage; her brothers, Thomas, Joseph, Leigh, Marshall, Ronald, Ralph, and Jim Gillespie; her grandchildren, Jason and Pam Savage; her great grandchildren, Amos and Ivan Roscoe.

Rebecca was very well respected by her community, friends, and family. She was a nurse for many years and also helped build a successful farm with Ivan while raising her children. She was also a member of the C.W.L.

Funeral service was held on Saturday, January 20, 2024 from St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at 11 am. Father Gilbert Doddatto celebrated, assisted by Father Paul Paradis. Interment will be in the parish cemetery at a later date.

Music for the service was by soloist Léa Godbout-Bossé and pianist Keith Cassista. Readings were by Rebecca's grandchildren, Lucas Franey and Bryan Savage. The Prayers of the Faithfull were by Rebecca's granddaughter, Amy Savage-Laforge.

The eulogy was given by Rebecca's daughter, Anne Savage-Franey. The urn was carried by Rebecca's son, David Savage.

Arrangements were entrusted to Brunswick Funeral Home, Perth-Andover, NB.
