Dad was a very kind and caring man. He worked hard for fifty years, and he retired in 1998. He also played hard. As a younger man, he played ball for the Arthurette Legionnaires baseball team, and as a family, we spent our summers at the ball diamond. He and Mom were avid campers, and once his kids discovered how much fun the “old” people were having at the campground, we would sometimes join them. He loved going to dances, and he taught his girls how to do “legion dances” in our livingroom. He was passionate about his politics, and he liked a shot of good scotch whiskey every now and then.
In his later years, he both cheered and swore at his Toronto Blue Jays, sat in his rocking chair on the porch, and fed the birds. He still remained passionate about his politics. He had many friends, both young and old, from all walks of life, who visited him on a daily, weekly, or yearly basis. Everyone was welcomed, and Dad loved those visits.
As his time came to an end, he figured he had lived a good long life. He was proud that his mind remained sharp, and he lived at home until last week, before he went into the hospital.
Respecting Dad’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service held.
For those who wish, donations can be made to the S.P.C.A.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brunswick Funeral Home, Perth-Andover and Plaster Rock, NB.
