Hal O'Neal
1955-2024
Hal was born in Perth-Andover, NB, on February 12, 1955. He was the son of the late Vernon and Theresa (Ledwith) O'Neal. Hal leaves behind his loving partner, Victorine "Vikki" Martin; his nephews, Mike and Jamie Murphy, with their spouses, of Aroostook, NB; his sister, Lois DeMerchant (Jeff) of Red Rapids, NB; his uncle, John O'Neal (Sharon) of Caribou, ME.
Hal was predeceased by his parents; his sisters, Janet and Lorna O'Neal; his nephew, Corey DeMerchant.
Hal founded O'Neal Paving in the mid 1980's and later moved to incorporate it as O'Neal General Contracting Ltd in 1988. In 2003, Hal integrated his father's business and expanded OGC's services to include sand and gravel export.
Over the last thirty years, O'Neal General Contracting has evolved to be an industry leader, focusing on environmental fuel spill clean-up, excavating, earth work, road building, water and sewer contracting, site preparation and services, trucking, aggregate product manufacturing, snow removal, salt and sand services, and office and storage trailer rentals.
Built on generations of hard work with dedicated, dependable, employees and an up-to-date fleet of trucks and equipment, O'Neal General Contracting Ltd. takes pride in completing high quality construction services to customers and to the community.
Hal was very personable, honest, reliable, and family oriented. He was kind and caring to everyone he met and always had time for others.
Hal had a heavy passion for racing, starting with racing snowmobiles which eventually lead to racing stock cars. He raced at Spuds Speedway in Caribou, and Speedway 660 in Geary, NB.
Hal also enjoyed spending time in Florida and was always looking for a good deal at the auctions.
Funeral service was held on Friday, August 30, 2024 at 11 am from Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Aroostook, NB. Father Gilbert Doddatto celebrated. Interment will be in the parish cemetery at a later date.
Music for the service was by Lindsay Everett. Readings were by Vicky Demmings and Carlene Flowers. The eulogy was given by Derek Demmings.
Honorary pallbearer were Greg Currie, Donald Murphy, Clinton Lunn, Narcisse Martin, Victor Everett, and Harry Boon.
Pallbearers were Rodney O'Neal, Mike Hanscomb, Troy Williams, John Lawrence, Derek Demmings, and Dennis Francoeur.
For those who wish, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
Arrangements were entrusted to Brunswick Funeral Home, Perth-Andover, NB.
