James (Duke) Hanscomb
1935-2025
James was born in Aroostook, NB, on October 7, 1935. He was the son of the late William and Zenobia (McLaughlin) Hanscomb. James took great pride in his career in education, including his role as supervisor of schools in Weymouth, NS, from 1971 to 1978, and his many years as a teacher in Halifax County, NS. He also cherished the time that he spent at his camp in Weymouth, NS.
James is survived by his son, John Hanscomb of Beaver Dam, NB; his granddaughters, Katelyn Hanscomb and Julie Hanscomb; his sisters, Mary Pelrine of Aroostook, NB, and Norma Hanscomb-Wallace of Perth-Andover, NB; and his brother, Paul Hanscomb of California Settlement, NB. He was predeceased by his sisters, Winnifred Briggs and Alberta Crouse; and his brothers, Wilfred Hanscomb and Wilmot Hanscomb.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Northwood, VON, and Victoria General Hospital staff who cared for James. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
A graveside service will be held at Presbyterian Rural Cemetery in Perth-Andover, NB, in the spring.
